AMS and ACU deliver “Train the Trainers” program to support young people in Timor-Leste

Last week, Australian Marist Solidarity (AMS) worked alongside Australian Catholic University (ACU) to deliver a “Train the Trainers” workshop at the Canossia Daughters of Charity Vocational School in Baucau. The workshop forms part of a research project exploring the needs of young people across the Diocese of Baucau.

The participants were students from the Instituto Católico para a Formação de Professores (ICFP), including Marist Brothers who are currently studying at the institute.

The project seeks to engage directly with young people and youth services to better understand community needs, while also identifying existing community assets and capacities that can support education initiatives and help young people as they transition into adulthood.

Following the training, the participants put their new skills into action, facilitating community workshops at Christ the King Parish, Liurai, in Lautem. The workshops provided an opportunity for the newly trained facilitators to take the lead, engage directly with young people and put their learning into practice.

The trainers will continue this work with further workshops in Baucau on Thursday and Friday.
